What's in your gym bag?

Having the essentials at the gym is important. Here are our top 3 items and why.


1. Water Bottle

Water is always a necessity before, after and during a workout. Water lubricates our muscles and joints. It helps build muscle by transporting nutrients to our cells and waste out of the body. It gives us energy and keeps us healthy. When we sweat we experience fluid loss but water fixes this easily. Have a sip of your water every 10 to 20 minutes during exercising to stay properly hydrated. Dehydration can result in muscle cramping, decreased strength and reduced endurance. All of which are unwanted triggers during a great workout. 


2. Music Player

Listening to music when you exercise improves your workout! Music is a positive kind of distraction. It makes you less aware of the exertion and can benefit athletic performance by up to 15 percent1 especially upbeat tunes. Studies have shown people work harder when listening to faster music. Songs between 120 and 140 beats per minute will set you at the perfect pace for maximum effort. Music enhances your mood and makes you want to move. Simply putting on your favorite tunes will help you leave behind the negativity felt before and power through the workout. 


3. Towel

Most gyms do not carry towels. Or if they do there is a cost, they are too small and have been overused. Bring a clean towel in your gym bag that you can freshen up with and play your part in communal hygiene with. Either wiping the sweat from your forehead, the machine after using or placing your towel down on the yoga matt adds to that extra bit of desired cleanliness. If you are staying to shower in the change room pack yourself a fluffy and fresh towel to use. When having a lovely post workout shower it is time to pamper yourself. You’ve earned it!
